She took them out, placed them on the table, and began packing a bag. She added a few apple pies, some pilaf, and homemade sausage. She knew Igor’s parents loved these treats.

They had always been delighted by her visits, praising her cooking and asking about her work. Anna imagined arriving, their surprised and happy faces. She smiled.

She loved making surprises. She loved seeing joy in others’ eyes. She dressed, putting on comfortable jeans and a warm jacket, and glanced out the window.
